New Zealand Ski Vacation
I’m not much of a snow skier, in fact I’ve never skied before. I skied on the water once, and enjoyed it for about 30 seconds until I got a system flushing of salt water through several orifices. I can’t remember the time of the year, but a couple of mates and I decided a New Zealand skiing vacation would be a good idea. You can pretty much go skiing about 8-9 months of the year in some parts of the country. Anyway we stayed at a hotel in Taupo, and thought we’d get an early start. Taupo is the home of Lake Taupo, the largest lake in New Zealand. With heaps of fishing and water sports. You can even try your luck at hitting a golf ball a couple of hundred feet off the shore onto a platform with several holes on it. Just for bragging rights. Anyway back to our New Zealand skiing vacation. We ended up at the local pub that night and bumped into a couple of ex All Blacks. Long story short, we shut the place down at 2 am. We got up at the crack of noon and decided, (after a long discussion) that we should go to the mountain. On an awesome afternoon, where you could see the mountains across the lake, we got on our way. We drove the scenic route for about an hour or so. When we got there, mate, there were more things that caught our attention than the beautiful scenery, like the beautiful scenery. Back to our New Zealand skiing vacation. We had spent all our money in the pub the night before so we couldn’t afford to rent any skies. But my mate had a box full of rubbish bags in his car. We climbed the mountain, dodging confident skiers of all shapes, sizes, and ages. We got as high up the mountain as our lungs would let us, about 100ft. We sat on our trash bags and rocked down the hill. We threw the bags in the trash, put our wet asses in the car and went back to the pub. Don’t let my lame New Zealand skiing vacation put you off going down to NZ to do some skiing. I know a lot of other people who are really good skiers, and they go skiing whenever they get a chance. They can’t get enough of it. After all New Zealand is the adrenaline junkie capital of the world.
