The new All Blacks Haka

In 2005 before a tri nations game between the All Blacks and South Africa, there was a different All Blacks haka. It was the birth of Kapa O Pango. In front of a full house at Carisbrook Stadium in Dunedin, New Zealand.  With looks of confusion and yet excitement, the All Black fans were witnessing history with the new All Blacks haka. Kapa O Pango (the name of the new All Blacks haka) was developed especially for the All Blacks by Derek lardelli. It was made for the now multi cultural line up of the All Blacks. The All Blacks now, consist of a number of different nationalities, including Samoans, Tongans, Fijians, of course New Zealanders and more. At the end of the new haka there is an action that suggests a throat cutting. This really threw a fox in the chicken coop. Some people thought it promoted violence to the All Black fans. But Derek Vardelli reckons it’s a gesture for drawing vital energy into the bodies heart and lungs.

Let me become one with the land

This is our land that rumbles

And it’s my time! My moment!

This defines us as the All Blacks

It’s my time! It’s my moment!

Our dominance

Our supremacy will triumph

And will be placed on high
